JULIE SHIMER, CEO OF WELCH ALLYN & RECENTLY APPOINTED NYS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD MEMBER TO SPEAK AT CNY SOCIETY FOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANANGEMENT APRIL MEETING

Syracuse, NY (23 MAR 11) – Strategizing for Success will be the theme of the April meeting of Central New York Society for Human Resource Management, (CNYSHRM), as they welcome Julie Shimer, CEO of Welch Allyn, to offer the perspective of a successful Central New York company. In addition to her position as CEO of Welch Allyn, Shimer was also recently appointed to the New York State Economic Development Board by Governor Cuomo.

Ms. Shimer will present a brief history of Welch Allyn and share the strategies and best practices that helped the company grow, thrive, and continue to succeed today and into the future. She will include information on how the company has recruited, developed, and retained its employees, and how those employees will contribute to the future success of the company.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13 at the Doubletree Carrier Circle in Syracuse. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m. and the program, “Strategizing for Success” is 8:30 – 10:00 a.m.  The cost is $35 members, $40 non-members, and $20 students. The program has been approved for 1.5 (General ) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute. Shimer became President and CEO of Welch Allyn in 2007 and is the first woman to hold the position in the 95-year history of the company. She has over 20 years leadership experience in the computer networking and wireless communications industries, holds master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from Lehigh University and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and is actively involved in programs that encourage women to enter engineering fields. She is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Society for Women Engineers.
