Committees



Executive Committee 


President
 

As chairperson of CNY SHRM's board of directors, the president provides leadership to the chapter in accordance with the chapter bylaws and consistent with state, regional, and SHRM policy, strategies and objectives. The president presides over the activities of all officers, directors, and standing committees to ensure the accomplishment of chapter goals, objectives, and strategies and is responsible for  operating the chapter so that the needs of the members are met. The president also serves as a voting member of the SHRM state council.

Vice President 
As a member of the CNY SHRM executive board of directors, the vice president is responsible for assisting the president in overseeing all chapter activities, as well as performing presidential duties in the absence of the president. Additionally, the vice president provides support with the planning, development, and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic initiatives for the chapter and represents the chapter in the human resources community. 

Secretary
As a member of the CNY SHRM executive board of directors, the secretary assists other officers in governance activities and provides support with the planning, development, and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic initiatives for the chapter. The secretary is responsible for recording minutes for chapter meetings, as well as representing the chapter in the human resources community. 

Treasurer
As a member of the CNY SHRM executive board of directors, the treasurer acts in the capacity of trustee and financial agent for the chapter. As the chapter's financial officer and advisor, the treasurer is responsible for managing IRS filings, maintaining financial records and accounts, assessing financial implications of proposed actions by the board of directors, observing the financial direction of the chapter, and offering financial guidance as needed.

Past President
CNY SHRM's past president serves as an advisor to the current president and other officers and members of the board of directors, providing guidance regarding past practices, general operations, and other matters to assist in the smooth operation of the chapter. Additionally, the past president provides ongoing support with the planning, development, and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic initiatives for the chapter, and represents the chapter in the human resources community.

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

The Diversity Committee works diligently with the surrounding communities to seek out new ideas and perspectives. This Diversity committee seeks to find new members from underrepresented groups to enhance the diversity of the chapter, as well as connect members in the community with workforce readiness initiatives. In addition, this committee markets CNY SHRM by selectively volunteering at various events throughout the year, hosting events and forming partnerships with local community organizations. 

Workforce Readiness Committee

The Workforce Readiness Committee will work diligently to provide information to the community about resources, organizations, and topics of interest revolving around the workforce of our community.  The committee will direct business professionals to new and unexplored avenues to find qualified employees. In addition, this committee markets CNY SHRM by selectively volunteering at various events throughout the year, hosting events and forming partnerships with local community organizations. 

Professional Certification and College Relations Committee

The mission of the Professional Certification and College Relations committee is to promote the education of HR professionals and students through career development, continuing education, scholarship, and professional certification. This committee works to strengthen the relationship with CNY community organizations, to promote HR related educational and professional development opportunities for CNY SHRM members and students, and strengthen the relationship with the CNY student chapters to encourage collaboration and involvement of students in CNY SHRM. 

Programming Committee

The Programming committee is dedicated to delivering programming and events that provide our members with information on current topics, trends, and best practices relevant to their development and success as human resource professionals and opportunities to recognize and celebrate the best practice achievements and contributions of our local CNY SHRM members and organizations. 

Legal/Legislative Advocate Committee

The Chapter’s legislative advocate is the Chapter’s representative to state and federal legislative events. The advocate is responsible for updating the Board and Chapter each month on legislative issues and publishing to our members, and legal information that meets our members’ needs. 

Marketing/Publicity Committee

The Marketing committee is responsible for coordinating internal and external marketing efforts for the chapter activities, events and promote sponsorships for all events and advertising opportunities. The committee also serves as the primary liaison with all media outlets including local news agencies and is responsible for press releases and providing guidance to increase the Chapter’s exposure in the community. 

Membership Committee

The Membership committee is responsible for managing the recruitment and retention of chapter membership by marketing the benefits of membership, welcoming new members, hosting an annual celebration event and staying connected to current members through regular communications. 

 

Total Rewards

The Total Rewards committee is responsible for serving the chapter’s informational and educational needs related to compensation, benefits and relational returns (non-financial rewards) through surveys, programs, and information on industry best practice. 

Foundation

The Foundation Committee’s mission is to champion workforce and workplace transformation by promoting and educating CNYSHRM members about SHRM Foundation programs and activities. The committee’s focus will be to organize fundraisers that support the SHRM Foundation and in turn, support educational scholarships to educate and the local membership and their families. The Foundation Committee is committed to make change happen and enhance opportunities for HR professionals to make a difference in their local communities.
