MARYANN GORMAN, MS, CASAC, SAP

Coordinator of Support Services & Training/Employee Assistance Counselor

A credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor, MaryAnn has a Master’s degree in Counseling from Syracuse University, with a specialty in rehabilitation and addiction.  She is also a Substance Abuse Professional for NYS Department of Transportation. 

Previous to HelpPeople, MaryAnn worked in the addiction field for ten years, in both intensive outpatient treatment and continuing care outpatient treatment.  She has been with HelpPeople for thirteen years as a counselor and served for several years as clinical supervisor.  She is currently responsible for coordinating HelpPeople’s support, training, and wellness program services.  MaryAnn’s particular areas of interest are critical incident stress management, addiction, relapse prevention, women’s issues, stress and anger management, and life transition issues.  MaryAnn has presented numerous workplace wellness programs and trainings on a number of topics, such as Change Management, Conflict Management, Stress Management, Relaxation, Managing Work Stress, Addressing Performance Issues, Transitioning from Peer to Supervisor, and Dealing with Challenging People. She has also presented trainings and classes on addiction-related topics for Crouse Hospital’s Chemical Dependency Treatment Services, the Onondaga Council on Alcohol and Addiction, and Onondaga Community College’s Excel program. MaryAnn is a mental health coordinator for the Syracuse Fire Department’s CISM Team.  In February 2002 she was one of the recipients of the New York State Senate Liberty Award for her services at the World Trade Center disaster in 2001.
